Originally, Dead Kings was planned as a traditional DLC release from Ubisoft – part of a season pass that would expand the Unity experience beyond the launch game. However, the abundant technical problems of that launch game prompted Ubisoft to change its tune, and as a conciliatory gesture to its fans, Dead Kings is now available to all free of charge.
Andrew Reiner and I dove into the new content, which sees Arno exploring new catacomb environments and warding off rats and bats with a handy lantern. While our brief exploration isn’t enough to see the full scope of Dead Kings, it’s clear that this expansion includes new cinematics, characters, and gameplay – making it more involved than many free DLC game offerings.
