On the lead up to Game Informer's Game of the Year awards of 2015, we've invited a number of the video game industry's influential figures to share their favorite games of the year.
Christofer Sundberg worked for both EA and Paradox Interactive before going on to cofound Avalanche Studios, the developer behind the Just Cause series and Mad Max. Avalanche is also lending a hand with the development of Final Fantasy XV.
Here are Sundberg's picks for the top games of 2015 and his thoughts about them in no particular order:
Monster Hunter 4
I accidentally stole my son's 3DS on one of my many trips and he never
got it back after I played this. He’ll get it back when I finish it. Maybe.
Helldivers
An awesome retro-action shooter from our Swedish
friends at Arrowhead. A given title in this list.
Pillars of Eternity
Developed by one of my favorite RPG developers
Obsidian and published by our neighbors at Paradox Interactive, this game
brought back the magic of classic RPG’s.
Grand Theft Auto V
Just because it’s one of the greatest game series
on the planet and the PC version gave me an excuse to play it through a third
time.
Batman: Arkham Knight
One of the most well-polished games in the history of
video games. Absolutely loved it.
Prison Architect
This game is so creepy in many ways but also so much
fun.
Elite Dangerous
The best VR experience so far and also the best reason
to buy a joystick for a fortune.
Fallout 4
What’s there to say? It’s Fallout... 4. I was one of the marketing guys on
the first and second games. I’ve been a pip-fan-boy ever since.
Rise of the Tomb Raider
The most fun I've had on my Xbox One all year. A
fantastic adventure experience.
Just Cause 3
We also released Mad Max this year, and I'm super happy with how it
turned out. But Just Cause is close to my heart, having created Rico back
in 2003. It's been an honor to work with hundreds of fantastic talents over the
year, and I'm so proud to have released a third entry in the series. A great
one at that.
