Capcom's Onimusha series took real life characters from history and retold actual historical battles with supernatural elements. The game follows a couple of ghost busting Samurai who travel through the country killing demonic monsters and absorbing their souls with a mystical gauntlet. It's probably pretty close to the actual history.
